SCENE 2- ACT 1:
Rick: This is blasphemy!
Jessie: Father, love is not blasphemous. That in my
new nature I will learn to love another.
Rick: Another woman!. Tis' not I have taught you from,
acquired any moral value.
Jessie: Gentle soul, be still for I know not what you
call sadomy.
(Servant comes in and interrupts the conversation. He tells Rick something and leaves)
Rick: Now, is not the time to talk of such things.
Thou wilst not speak of this again on my word or in my
house.
Jessie: Art thou servants more important than the
touching matter of your daughter?
Rick: Madamoiselle, my daughter would never speak of
such sin.
Jessie: Love is a sin? Than break these chains and
lift me towards heaven as I revel in thou
insecurities. If love is such a crime I will gladly
bathe in its glory. For thou nor any other creature
shall rip me away from the arms of another love.
Rick: Thou wilt pay for your sin as many.
[Rick leaves and Jessie falls on the bed weeping]

SCENE 3- ACT 1:
Katie: Is the day so young?
Haley: But new struck 2
Katie: Will I ever find another? Love of which is pure
and good.
Haley: Of love?
Katie: Alas that love, whose view is muffled still. Should without eyes see the light of day. Yet tell me not for I have heard it all.
Here's much to do with hate, but more with love
Why then, O brawling love, O loving hate, O anything
of nothing first create!
O heavy lightness, serious vanity.
Unfortunate chaos of well-seeming forms. Still-waking sleep that is not what it is!
Doth thou laught at such a thing?
Haley: No, but I weep
Katie: Good heart, at what?
Haley: At the good heart's oppression
Katie: Why, such is love's transgression.
Griefs of mine own lie heavy in my breast.
With more of thine, this love that thou hast shown.
Doth add grief to too much of mine own.
Love is a smoke made with the fume of sighs.
Being purged, a fire sparkling in lover' eyes.
Farewell, for I know not what to do
Haley: Soft, I will attend thee. And if you leave me
so you do me wrong
Katie: I have lost myself. I am not here. This is not
Katie. She's some other where
Haley: Tell me in sadness, who it is you love?
Katie: And have redicule lying on my back? Nay
Haley: Redicule? Why no. Only the true compassion of a friend.
Katie: Be that as it may, I have been hit with cupid's arrow and she'll not be hit by the same arrow as well. She hath amazing wit, and in strong proof of chastity well armed, from love's weak childish bow she lives uncharmed. She will not understand the depths of my passion and Woe is me...I will never love again.
Haley: Do stop the pessimism. The night is young and we shall accompany the Sammler party tonight.
Katie: Sammler? What love is a name.
Haley: The rival of your family is the love capturing your heart? O teach me how I should forget to think!
Katie: My family's inequity shall haunt them for all of their days and I shall have no part in that. For love is on the side of mine and I will prosper in strife and win the love of fair Lady Jessie tonight.

SCENE 4- ACT 1:
[ Jessie stands on the top floor of the stairs as
Katie and Haley enter]
Katie: My heart forgets to beat. For at this very
moment an angel appeared.
[ Katie walks up the stairs and finds Jessie staring at the crowd. She quietly goes behind Jessie and leans down to her ear and whispers]
Katie (whispering): How can such a beauty haunt my dreams and not have a name?
[ Jessie, who is frightened, spins around and gasps]
Jessie: Kind lady, doth thou wish for my heart to stop and my voice to scream?
Katie: Forgive me lady for my manners have ran along with the doves. If I profane with my unworthiest hand that I shall beg of your forgiveness for my wrong doings this night.
[ Takes Jessie's hand and kisses it]
Jessie: Good angel, you do wrong your hand too much. Which mannerly devotion shows in this
Katie: Nay, for I am nothing compared to the sparkling rain shimmering in thou miraculous eyes.
Jessie: And how shall I know you do not profess this to the other maids?
Katie: For my word will never cease to remain true as long as my heart beats for you.
[Katie leans down and kisses Jessie. She inhales deeply and wraps her arms around Katie's neck as Katie wraps her arms around Jessie's waist and pulls her closer. Katie pulls back and looks into Jessie's eyes]
Katie: This night you have taken my heart. For thou art the keeper of my soul.
