Dreams Do
Come True...If You Like Donuts
Rating: PG-13
Disclaimer: Jessie and Katie belong to Bedford Falls. Krispy Kreme donuts
are referenced without any previous consent; aside from my testing to ensure they are made
with the best quality ingredients
heh. Kelly Clarkson, Ryan Starr, Kikki McKibbin,
Tamyra Grey, Justin Guarini, RJ Helton, Christina Christian and the other American Idol
finalists belong to someone else
not sure about the legalities there. I guess they
belong to themselves, but I heard they practically signed away their firstborns just to
make it onto the show. ;)
Note: This is sort of based on Nicki's challenge and a conversation I had
with Emily. I wrote this because of them. You girls rock! But really, the blame for this
fic belongs to Emily. So be prepared, this is gonna be slightly sappy, but hopefully fun.
**********
Thursday night and Katie found herself sitting at her computer while
sort of listening to the radio, bored out of her mind. She was Jessieless simply because
they last time they were together they fell asleep and Jessie missed curfew; said curfew
having become extremely important to the parentals after the girls let them in on the good
news. Katie still laughed at their logic. They were together all the time and if they
wanted to do things, they would. Still, whining about being Jessieless was her form of
amusement simply because she was thinking about her girl.
"You're listening to KISS 103.5's Interactive 8 @ 8. Our next request will be coming
to town with the other `American Idol' finalists and we will get you in; just keep
listening for more details. Here she is at number 2
Kelly Clarkson with `A Moment
Like This'."
"OH MY GOD! The people from "American Idol" are coming. I've got to find a
way to take Jessie. I mean, she's been driving me crazy with her Kelly obsession for the
last couple of months. Besides, Kelly Clarkson, Nikki McKibbin, Ryan Starr, Christina
Christian and Tamyra Grey, swoon
I wonder if anyone noticed how the girls on that
show were so much hotter than the guys. Or maybe I'm biased. At least I got Jessie to open
up a little; sharing with her our mutual attraction to Kelly was very nice."
Leave it to Katie to have a mental monologue all by herself. And she wondered why people
thought she was a little "different."
While the song played, Katie's mind flashed back to the summer. It had been a great time
for the girls, spending their time together and getting to know each other and their
families. Of course the most fun was spending their Tuesday and Wednesday nights cuddling
in front of the TV and watching American Idol. She remembered her favorite performance,
when Kelly, suffering from laryngitis, sang "I Surrender" and blew the other
contestants right out of the water. She also remembered "Stuff Like That There",
which was Jessie's favorite. She had to admit that Kelly looked really cute in the
little dress and when she did the whispered "stuff like that there"
line
swoon. [Ok, so that was a blatant shout-out
whatever. ;) ]
Katie hopped online to check if there were any tickets available. She had a fit when she
realized that the tickets were already sold out. "Why, God, why?" [Seems I've
decided to play the shout-out game as well. ;) So, can anyone guess who said that? Hint:
It's a "Friend"]
Katie figured she'd listen to KISS 103.5 and maybe, if she got lucky, try to win the
tickets.
(Couple of days later
afternoon)
Katie was in the car, glued to the radio station. She wanted the tickets, dammit! Taking
Jessie to see American Idol would get her some much appreciated brownie points.
"
As we told you before, the American Idols are coming to town! And we've got
your tickets right here! Be caller 103 at (312) 591-1035 and we'll give you the details so
you can win front-row tickets and backstage passes." [By the way, that radio station
actually exists in Chicago and that is the actual number. God, I *am* a dork
but a
cute dork ;) ]
Katie was rummaging through her bag like a madwoman. "I've got to call, now. Where
the hell's the stupid phone? ARGH! Yes, I found it! Now, what was the number?" She
dialed the number and it was busy. "I hate busy signals," she whined. You know
it's good, when she's actually speaking out loud to an empty car. She dialed another 15
times when
"oh, my god, it's ringing!"
"You're caller 103. What's your name?" the DJ asked.
"Um, Katie," she answered nervously.
"Well, Katie. Here's what I need you to do to win the tickets. Come to the station
dressed as your favorite American Idol. There's only one catch
you have to be here in
an hour."
"Uh, where exactly are you?" she asked already picturing what she'd wear.
"We're on 1827 Michigan Avenue," he responded. "So, you better get a move
on." [I have no idea what is at that address or if it even exists. While I am anal
about research, I'm not *that* anal. Unlike some people
;) ]
"Ok, thanks," she said hanging up.
She broke the record and made it to her house in half the time it usually took her. See,
speed limits and stoplights are for sissies. When she arrived home, she ran up to
her room to look for something to wear. She thought about wearing her brother's afro wig
and dressing as Justin, but decided against it because she couldn't find a top to work
with that. After trying to dress up as Kelly and deciding she couldn't pull it off, she
settled on Ryan. In order to make the outfit work, she went into Bailey's closet and found
an old summer camp t-shirt that he wore when he was about 6. [Blatant shout-out number 2
;) ]
"Perfect," Katie thought. "Now, all I need are scissors and I got me a Ryan
Starr outfit. Well, if you can call this an outfit." She went to work ripping and
cutting the shirt. She cut it so anyone could see her abs. Then she cut off the sleeves
and used the extra material to wrap it around her arms. She thought she looked like a
5-year-old trying to be Ryan, but that's all the time she had.
After dressing as Ryan and putting on the finishing touches, Katie made her way to the
car. She jumped in and began to drive towards downtown Chicago. She's spent about 30
minutes getting ready, so she knew she really didn't have much time. As she was making her
way on E. 66th St., she ran into trouble. She only had five minutes left and she was at
least 10 minutes away. Time was up and she didn't make it. She figured she'd still to the
station, thinking they might take pity on her and give her the tickets anyway;
unfortunately, they didn't.
A few days later
When Jessie heard about the concert, she was ecstatic. "Oh, Katie, we have to
go."
"I tried Jess, but the show's sold out," Katie replied crestfallen.
"Oh," Jessie sighed, disappointedly.
Katie figured a change of subject was the best idea. "So, what do you want to do
now?"
"How about some donuts," Jessie asked. "Please?"
"Why are you into Krispy Kreme so much?" Katie wondered, slightly annoyed. She
loved donuts as much as the next girl, but lately, Jessie was practically obsessed.
"Cuz
" Jessie mumbled.
"It's because of her, isn't it?" Katie teased.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Jessie blushed.
"Oh, come on. You don't think I've noticed that your sudden appreciation for Krispy
Kreme donuts happened after you read Kelly loves them?" Katie grinned. "You
know, from someone else I'd think it was stupid, but from you it's quite adorable."
"Well, I know how much you love it when I'm at my most adorable," Jessie teased,
deflecting the attention from her Kelly obsession. It was a little weird being so open
about her crush on another girl. Sure, she was in love with Katie, but that was
different. She hadn't been aware of her feelings until they hit because of the letter.
"Hmm, the letter. I never could have guessed things would turn out so well," she
thought to herself as she gazed at her girl.
"What are you thinking?' Katie asked as she pulled Jessie into a hug and kissed her
forehead. "Kelly?" she smiled wickedly.
Jessie rolled her eyes. "No, I was actually thinking how lucky I am for having you as
my girl."
"Aw, Jess, that's beautiful. But, I'm the lucky one, you know," she whispered,
as she leaned down and gently brought their lips together. "Come on, we've got to
stop at Krispy Kreme and then at Media Play to get a certain DVD," she smiled. [Ok,
I'm assuming there are Media Plays in IL, if not, then
whatever ;) ]
"Aw, we're getting donuts to watch the American Idol DVD? You're the best,"
Jessie beamed.
"Well, I try," Katie blushed.
A few weeks later
.insert "Jeopardy!" theme song. ;)
The night of *the* concert
Katie's mischievous mind came up with a plan, which she
thought was quite brilliant. She called Bailey and asked him to borrow some of his
clothes, his work shirts to be exact.
As soon as she had the shirts, she called Jessie. "Hey, sweetie."
"Hi
beautiful," Jessie replied, blushing. She only had the courage to get
all flirty with Katie over the phone. She could practically hear her smiling on the other
end.
"I've come up with an idea for tonight. Can I pick you up in, say, 20 minutes?"
"Sure, I'll be waiting. I love you, Billie."
"I love you too, baby. See ya in 20."
When Katie arrived at the Manning/Sammler residence to pick up her girl, she found Jessie
waiting on the porch. Jessie picked up her bag and walked to the car.
"Hey, Katie," she smiled as she kissed her hello.
"Hi, Billie, it's been too long since I've seen you," Katie joked. Yeah, a
long time
exactly 2 hours and 36 minutes, but who was counting.
"So, what's your fabulous idea?" Jessie asked intrigued. "Well, I
think I've come up with a plan to get us into the American Idol concert," Katie
replied.
"Oh, really?"
"Yeah, but don't get too excited. I'm not sure if it'll work."
"I know, but just the fact you're trying; it's great," Jessie smiled, reaching
for Katie's hand.
"Here. Put this on," Katie said reaching into the backseat and putting out a
shirt with the Krispy Kreme logo.
"Where did you get this?" Jessie asked curiously.
"Bailey. He worked at Krispy Kreme one summer, but that was about 3 years ago."
"Ok, so what's with the costume, though? Halloween's already passed, you know,"
Jessie remarked playfully as she put on the shirt.
"I know, you smartass. It's the key to getting in," Katie replied mysteriously.
"Whatever you say
"
The girls arrived at the United Center and Katie found her way to the delivery area.
"Katie, are you gonna tell me what the heck were doing here?" Jessie asked
exasperated.
"It's simple," Katie commented as she got out of the car. "We are Krispy
Kreme employees, sent here because our manager received a delivery request."
"Katie, that's a great plan, but I don't think it's gonna work. I mean, what if they
call to confirm the order?"
"Jess, relax. There's no way they're gonna call. They're probably too busy trying to
keep out all the screaming girls."
Katie went to the trunk and opened it. "See, I do have donuts. Now, come on,"
she handed Jessie a few boxes. "Just make it look convincing and let me do all the
talking."
"Fine."
They approached the gate and were greeted by a 6'9", 300-pound man who looked like he
belonged in the NFL. "Who are you?" he asked in a tone that make Jessie cringe
and wish Katie knew what she was doing.
"Hi," Katie began with her most charming smile, "we're from Krispy Kreme
here to deliver a special order for a Mr. Fuller and a Ms. Clarkson."
The guard smiled. "Nice try, little girl. But, we've already had another girl trying
to sneak in."
"But we *are* telling the truth. If you don't believe me call my manager; he got a
call from Mr. Fuller's assistant. She requested 2 dozens of the original glazed, a dozen
of chocolate iced with sprinkles, a dozen sugar coated, a dozen powdered blueberry filled,
and 2 dozen glazed crème filled."
She sounded so convincing, the guy actually believed her. "Alright, you can go in.
But, you better be telling the truth."
"Thanks," Katie smiled.
The gate opened and the girls were allowed inside. "This is so cool," Jessie
whispered as they were let into the arena. "I can't believe we got in."
"Right this way," a man told them. "The dressing rooms are this way."
Both Jessie and Katie turned to each other and smiled, thinking `We're going into the
dressing rooms
cool beans.'
As they were walking into the room where they were setting up the craft table, who should
come into the room but none other than a certain Ms. Clarkson? The girls didn't realize
Kelly was behind them and thought they were alone. They walked towards the table and put
down the boxes.
"Wow, Katie. I have no idea how you managed to pull this off, but I love you. To
think that Kelly's been in this room, well, I get giddy."
"Well, anything for you, babe. See, I told you my plan would work."
A very familiar voice startled them. "Yeah, I'd say the plan certainly worked."
They both turned around to find Kelly in the middle of the room. They faced each other
with their eyes practically out of their sockets.
"Oh, my god," Jessie spoke, "is that who I think it is?" she asked
Katie.
"I think so
unless I'm having a really weird dream," Katie joked.
"Hi, name's Kelly," the Texan said smiling. She found their reaction endearing.
"Uh
um
hi, I'm Katie." She said extending her hand, which Kelly shook.
"Well, hi Katie. And who's this?" she asked turning to Jessie, who was
obviously star struck.
Silence. Jessie's brain wanted to say something, but her mouth wasn't moving. Katie,
realizing what was happening spoke for her. "This is Jessie." She then whispered
in her girl's ear, "Jess, you're missing the chance to talk to Kelly."
Jessie shook her head and seemed to come back from dreamland. "Hi, Kelly. I'm
Jessie."
Kelly smiled. "Hi Jessie. It's nice to meet both of you." Both girls beamed;
they were on cloud nine.
"So, what's this I heard about a plan?" Kelly asked.
Both girls looked at Kelly, embarrassed. "Well, you see
I wanted to take Jessie
to the concert, but it was sold out. I even tried winning a radio contest, but that didn't
work. So, I came up with the idea of dressing as Krispy Kreme employees to get into the
arena," Katie confessed.
"Aw, cool beans." Jessie and Katie grinned at Kelly's remark. It was even more
adorable when you saw it in person. "Well, Katie, I must say that was a pretty good
plan."
"Thanks," Katie replied. She was acting so cool in front of her, but in reality
she was flipping out. `Oh, my god! I'm standing less than 3 feet away from Kelly freakin'
Clarkson. Could this get any better?'
Katie got her answer when Ryan, Nikki, RJ, Justin, and Tamyra walked into the room.
"Hey guys," Kelly greeted them.
"Who are they?" RJ asked curiously.
"This is Jessie," she replied gesturing towards the petite blonde. "And
this is Katie," she added as the tall girl stepped forward.
Justin looked at the two beautiful girls in front of him and he smiled. "So, how do
you girls know Kelly?"
"We don't," Katie replied as she stepped closer to Jessie. She knew he was quite
the charmer and she kinda had to smile to herself. `He has no idea, does he?'
Nikki noticed the closeness between the two girls and realized the true nature of their
relationship. "Don't mind Justin. He's the biggest flirt in the world."
"Yeah, I am," he agreed and they all laughed.
"So, how did you get in here?" Tamyra spoke for the first time.
"Oh, it's a cool plan they cooked up," Kelly smiled. "It involved
creativity and deception."
"Oh, really?'
Katie grinned. "Yup, that's me, creative and deceptive. Truth be told, I just came up
with the idea of dressing up as Krispy Kreme employees in order to get in."
They all laughed. "I take it you've hear of Kel's legendary donut crush, huh?"
Ryan asked amused.
"Actually, Jessie's the one that told me," Katie teased, which caused Jessie to
blush a deep red.
That didn't go unnoticed by the Idols. "So, who's your favorite Idol?" RJ asked
with a mischievous twinkle in his eye.
Without a second though, Jessie quickly answered. "Kelly, of course," she
beamed.
"Aw, look at that," Ryan commented. "She's beaming."
"Man, this sucks," Justin chimed in, whining. He turned to Kelly, "why is
it that you always get all the cute girls?"
"Sorry, Justin. I guess I'm a babe magnet," she laughed.
"Yeah, I guess you are," he conceded.
"She certainly is," Katie quipped. That earned her a wide grin from everyone and
a playful slap on her arm from Jessie.
"I hate to be the party pooper, but we've got to get ready for the show, guys,"
Christina said as she came into the room.
"Yeah, you're right," they all agreed.
"So, would you girls like to stick around and watch the show?" Kelly asked.
"Cool beans," Jessie exclaimed, causing everyone to crack up.
"Wow, she really is smitten," Nikki teased.
"Um
what I mean was, yes, that would be nice. Thank you," Jessie managed to
say as her blush deepened. "Yeah, that's very nice of you, Kelly," Katie
smiled.
"Well, after all you did to see us, I think you deserve it," she replied.
"But, now we've got to go. Enjoy the show."
All the Idols left to get ready, while Jessie and Katie stared at each other. It was
unbelievable, they were backstage at the American Idol concert, they met Kelly, and they
were gonna get to watch the show after all.
A man from the American Idol crew took the girls to a little corner of the stage where
they could watch the show without getting in the way. Jessie turned to Katie, "Wow. I
can't believe you were able to pull this off. Thanks for making my dream come true."
"I know how much meeting Kelly meant to you. I wanted to make it happen for you cuz I
love you," Katie smiled shyly.
"Aw, Katie. I love you too." For that one moment, Jessie completely forgot where
she was. She had only one thing in mind, Katie. So, she leaned up and kissed her girl,
standing onstage at the American Idol concert. This was probably the best day she'd ever
had. Their kiss continued until the music began and Ejay began to sing.
THE END
.
I know this was one of those "it's-too-good-too-be-true" stories, but hey,
that's why it's fiction. BTW, was I sappy enough? ;)
