Together
Again
by Katie
Quick note: Jessie hasn't caught on that Sarah is Madison's
therapist and Sarah doesn't know that Jessie is Madison's mom. All Sarah knows is that
Madison's parents are James and Jessie Walker; none of Madison's papers had Jessie's name
changed back to her maiden name. And both will find out that Madison is their missing link
if you will
Quick note 2: I had a better beginning version of this chapter, but my stupid
computer hates me and wouldn't let me open it, so here's my second try. Hope you like it!
PART 19
Enigmatic Snow
Jessie's head was filled with a million things. Mondays were always the hardest to get up
and going. At 5:30 Jessie was already awake, or at least attempting to get out of bed on
this rather cold morning. She turned on her side and glanced at the clock. Oh how she
wished it were a snow day so she wouldn't have to go to her conference. Once a year all of
the big wigs of the hospital would get together and manage the budget and blah blah blah.
So after about maybe 10 minutes, Jessie forced herself out of bed, convincing her brain
and body that if they could get her up, she'd give them a nice warm coffee with a
chocolate spoon. Of course her body jumped for joy and she was out of her bed.
Once in the kitchen, with fuzzy slippers, a light blue robe and her hair in a lose
ponytail, Jessie made a big pot of coffee as she turned on the radio.
"Good morning Buffalo, New York! I hope you didn't have any plans to go outside
today, because it's almost literally a blizzard outside! Every school in the Buffalo
District has been called off on this Monday morning and just about every business as well.
So stay with me, Kurt Adams, on 102.4 KRCQ!" [That isn't a real station. At least I
don't think so]
All of Buffalo was covered in a white glistening powder and her wedding was to be at the
end of the week
Jessie almost got lost in her thoughts as her mind daydreamed in the enigmatic snow. Ever
since she was little, Jessie loved it when it snowed. There was something magical about
the white almost solid form of H2O early in the morning when the sun was still sleeping.
As she sipped her warm mug of coffee, she decided she better go tell Maddy that school was
cancelled so she could go back to sleep for a few hours.
The loud clashes of metal and heavy guitar riffs welcomed Jessie as she made her way down
the stairs towards Madison's room. Good old Maddy. It didn't matter what time of day it
was, she would always have some type of music blaring as loud as it could go. Jessie was
surprised her daughter could still manage to hear day after day.
*Knock, knock*
Before Jessie had a chance to speak, a loud yell was faintly over the "music."
"Hold on, I'll be right out. Just let me put some clothes on, I just got out of the
shower!" Maddy screamed at the top of her lungs so that she could attempt to be heard
not only over the deafening music but through the solid wood door as well. Jessie knew
better than to try to communicate back to her teenage daughter, because she was once a
teenager herself, and knew quite well that if the door's closed and music's on, you can't
hear a thing.
A few seconds later, Madison appeared, slightly out of breath, in sweats, an old Duke
University hooded sweatshirt that was/is Jessie's, a pair of running shoes and a mob of
messy wet dark brown hair.
"Oh hey Mom, what's up?"
"I just thought you'd like to know that school's been cancelled. There's snow
everywhere and just about everything's closed," Jess replied. She paused and thought
to herself, "Why is Madison awake and already showered at-" she glanced at her
watch, 5:46 "5:46 when she usually isn't up until around 7?" "Hey, why are
you up so early?" She asked slightly confused.
Madison being the wise-ass as she sometimes was shot back, "well, why are you?"
"Damn. She's clever," Jessie thought to herself, giving off an almost shocked
look. "I was supposed to have the annual conference today and I wanted to get a head
start so I wouldn't be late, but by the radio, it looks like I won't have to go in
today
so what ARE you doing up this early Maddy?" Jessie asked once more as she
took another sip of her coffee.
"Well," Madison began. "I couldn't sleep anyways, so I just thought I'd get
up and try not to be late for 1st period for once in my life." Madison was like a
chip off the old block.
"Oh, well I'm sorry you couldn't sleep. You know I could have given you something for
that, right?" Jessie's tone turned into concerned doctor mom mode.
Maddy was used to this all right. Perhaps a little too much, because she just leaned up
against the doorway and let out a big sigh with a nice rolling of the eyes. "MOM, I'm
FINE. Seriously, I don't need any drugs. Besides, Dr. Dumont wanted me to make sure I
didn't take any sort of prescriptions without her knowledge, since I'm on that crap she
gave me." Silence filled the room, or rather, stairway.
"So, how is everything going with that?" Jessie was almost too afraid to ask.
She remember what it was like to be young and seeing a therapist and how she felt when her
parents would ask her about going to see her therapist.
"It's fine I guess. She's not that bad." Simple as that, even though Madison was
all hard ass around her, she was actually growing quite fond of Sarah. Maddy could barely
believe what she was thinking, because she definitely HATES just about all therapists.
"Well, you can go back to bed if you want. I'm going to go back upstairs and call
Katie. If you need anything, just holler, ok?" Jessie said as she kissed Maddy on the
forehead, and then turned to start walking upstairs.
"Yeah, I will. Thanks Mom." Jessie continued upstairs while Madison turned
around, closed the door and cranked up the music.
Both girls had some interesting plans for the snowy day. Jessie wanted to talk to Katie
about the wedding and everything that'll change with them being married, while Madison
thought on a simpler level. Kelly + snow = the perfect snow angel
