The
College Years
by Katie
FYI: Here's some basic info on Sarah, just so you can get an idea of what she's like. --*--Name: Sarah Dumont, Age: 28, Hair color/style: Brown, kind of long (to about the middle of her back). Eye color: Hazel/Green Height: 5'7", Weight: 125 lbs. # Of yrs she's been "out": about 12 yrs. Sarah's pretty much a laid back girl. She likes to dress up but she'd rather be in a good, warn in pair of jeans and a tee. Sarah has a very noticeable English accent, yet seems like she's "Americanized." She was previously a professor at the * University of Madrid * but when she was offered the chance to move back to her hometown, she jumped at the chance. Besides, she needed to get back to her roots. When she said she almost got married a couple years ago, she kind of lied. Only a month before she was offered the spot to teach at Oxford, her longtime girlfriend/fiancée Lucy, decided that she couldn't find the words to tell her parents she was marrying a girl. Sarah was devastated, because they had been in love with each other for about six years and she just couldn't believe Lucy's decision. So Sarah decided to leave Madrid, in hopes of finding someone else and having a new chance at starting over.
PART 3
Fall 2005
"
Umm
it was nothing. Sorry," mumbled a stricken Katie. She
didn't really know what was going on. But then Katie noticed something about Sarah. She
was starring right at
Jessie! HER Jessie, well, Katie didn't own Jessie or anything,
but still, Jessie is her true love, her amazingly cute princess.
"Well, let's hope not then." You could really tell now that Sarah was in a bad
mood. Then she turned towards Jessie's direction and added, "You might want to
reconsider whom you sit by next time because it might get you into trouble next
time." With that comment, Jessie almost immediately decided that she was going to
hate this woman `til the end of time. I mean, yeah Katie had a big mouth sometimes, but
COME ON! It's the first day give it a rest!
Sarah couldn't believe what she was saying when she finished. She hoped to God that the
girl wouldn't start to hate her, because she would really like to get to know her. And
normally she wasn't like this. "What am I doing? Sarah, get a grip. We don't want to
scare them all away now, do we? Ok, let's get things moving along."
With a quick shake of her head, she turned around and went up to the huge white board and
wrote "Modern Theatre: The Innovation to the Human Mind." She then continued
writing an assignment of some kind underneath. When she was finished she turned around to
address the class.
"Now I know it's the first day of class and all, but
here's your first
assignment. It won't be due for at least two weeks, but I'm giving to you now in case some
of you want to get this out of the way," Sarah said in her most teacher-like voice.
The assignment was to write up a ten-page essay on the first play/musical they saw, using
as much detail as possible, and relating that play/musical to the innovation of the human
mind. The project wasn't the hardest, or the biggest thing any of them had ever seen, but
there was still that moan of having a project.
"If you need any help or have any questions about the class, feel free to email me at
sdumont@....... For those of you who live around campus you'll probably be
seeing a lot more of me because I just rented out an apartment right off campus. Well,
class is dismissed."
After everyone finished copying down the assignment, they all started to pile out of the
building. Sarah was at her desk, fixing some stuff in her briefcase. Katie and Jessie were
one of the last students out of the room. They always took awhile to leave, for a few
reasons; a) they usually goofed off right after class, b) they always let everyone else go
ahead of them, and c) they usually tried to sneak in a few kisses.
A few minutes later, Sarah was finally all packed up and was ready to go home to her
apartment and take a warm bath and relax. She had already had four two-hour lectures to
give and she was very tired, especially since it was the first official day of the new
school year. When Sarah turned around, all of her stuff in hand, she almost dropped her
stuff when she saw Katie and Jessie. They were in an embrace, Katie with her hands on
Jessie's waist and Jessie's hand wrapped gently around Katie's neck. Sarah tried not to
make them think she was starring or focusing on them, but she was.
"
Umm
excuse me girls, but I have to be going now."
Katie and Jessie quickly snapped out of their trance, gathered their stuff and made their
way towards the door.
"I'm sorry Ms. Dumont, I mean Sarah, for disrupting your class today. It won't happen
again." Katie was really trying to apologize for two reasons. 1. She didn't want to
have a professor hate her all semester and 2. she really was sorry for everything.
"Oh, it's ok. I'm really sorry for snapping at you like that, I'm usually not like
that at all. Actually, I'm quite the opposite as how I may have seemed. Let's just try to
keep the talking to a minimum ladies."
Jessie decided to step into the conversation. "Well, thanks Sarah. I'll try to
keep her in line next time." And with that comment, Katie shot her a look like,
"oh you're SO going to get a tickle attack when we get home!" look and Jessie
couldn't help but laugh. Pretty soon all three girls were laughing. Jessie's laugh must
have been contagious or something, because they couldn't stop. Finally Sarah decided to
take the initiative to exit the conversation so they could all leave.
"Well, I should be going. Do you know where I can find Dr. Boyd? I have to get the
list of the American scholarship students that I will be chaperoning for this year's trip
to Paris during the Queen Mother's Annual Birthday Celebration."
"We could actually tell you everyone who's on that list." Jessie hesitated at
first, but then decided what the hoo, she's got nothing to lose by it. She then reached
into her backpack and pulled out a folded up piece of paper and handed it to Sarah.
"Here's the whole list. You might be wondering how I got this list. Well
Katie
and I are two of them."
"Oh, alright. So you're Katie
Singer and you are
?" Sarah asked as she
looked over the list.
"Oh sorry, duh, I'm a little slow sometimes. I'm Jessie Sammler."
"Ok, well, Jessie
and Katie I guess I'll see you next time then."
And with that, all three girls started to exit the room and eventually the building.
If only they knew that their apartments would end up being right across the hall from each
other
