The
Best Summer of All
by Katie
PART 3
"So," Katie began to
speak. "Whatever shall we do now?" Katie said it in a way that was totally
obvious that she knew exactly what she wanted to do, but thought she'd turn it into
something comical, to make Jessie laugh/smile.
"Whatever your heart desires Katie. I'm all yours," Jessie said grinning from
ear to ear.
"Really?"
"Yes," Jessie retorted making sure Katie knew she was 100% positive of her
response. Jessie had never been surer of anything in her life.
Katie thought to herself, "I love this girl, with all of my heart. I want this to be
the best night of both of our lives. I just hope I know what I'm doing so I don't look
stupid or anything. Maybe being around Tad and Russell while they talked about their
latest quest would now actually come in handy." But then again, they were in it for
one thing, and Jessie meant too much to her to ever have that chance of breaking Jess's
heart.
Katie then shifted her body on top of Jessie. Katie could hear Jessie's heart start to
beat faster. For a moment Jessie just closed her eyes and smiled, just like she did in the
car. She was ready to give herself to Katie. Jessie was finally able to let her heart rule
her mind and body, and be free.
"Just to let you know, I'm no expert on this. I've never done it before to be
perfectly honest." Katie tried to be confident, but she really didn't have any
experience in this area. After all, she was still a virgin herself, despite any rumors
about her and Sarah.
"Oh don't worry, I'm sure you'll do a great job." Damn Jessie loved her. Katie
was always confident and self-assured, never worried about having a wrong answer or making
a mistake, but now, Jessie loved Katie even more because she had been able to put her
guard down and show that she really is vulnerable and fragile. She was, enigmatic.
After Jessie finished talking, she leaned up and kissed Katie. Slowly, the kiss turned
into a major kissing session. Katie's hands were positioned around Jessie's neck and head
region while Jessie's hands were placed lightly on Katie's back. Katie took her right hand
and made the transition from behind Jess's neck to explore her body. She gently skimmed
Jessie's skin along her shoulder and then she delicately rested her hand on Jessie's
chest. Katie looked down, looking deeply into Jessie's beautiful eyes. "Is this ok?
If you ever want me to stop and/or you feel uncomfortable and want to take a break, tell
me. I don't want to do anything that you don't want me to do," Katie said so
sincerely, she really meant it. Jessie meant everything to her and the thought of losing
her made Katie just want to burst out in tears just thinking about the preposterous idea.
"Yeah, it's ok," Jessie replied in a soft whisper, totally relaxed and calm.
Well, as relaxed and calm as she could be with all of the excitement and nervousness that
was a) about to perhaps have sex with the most amazing person she's ever met and b) having
sex and/or doing more than just kissing. Katie had tremendously helped turn Jessie's life
around. Jessie loved Katie more than anything else. Yeah, she loved her parents and Eli,
but her love and passion for Katie was different. She didn't choose to love Rick, Karen
and Eli; she was born into loving them. But with Katie, it was something amazing. Katie
chose HER. Out of everyone at Sinclair High School, Katie Singer chose her, little Jessie
Sammler. Jessie didn't want to admit it, but she still didn't know why or how Katie saw
all of these amazing things in her. For the first time, Jessie was in love and it was
wonderful.
With Jessie's consent, Katie went back to what she was doing. Jessie could tell Katie was
nervous because as Katie's hand slowly started to lift up Jessie's shirt and reach under
her bra, her hand was shaking. Jessie wanted to make Katie feel less uncomfortable, so she
looked up into Katie's eyes and pulled Katie into a passionate kiss, giving Katie's hand
no other choice then to rest it on top of Jessie's breast. When Jessie pulled back she
just looked at Katie and smiled. Katie smirked back, figuring out what Jessie had done.
The two then started kissing, one soft, sweet kiss after another. Slowly Katie started
reaching for the bottom of Jessie's shirt and then Jessie reached her hands towards the
hem of Katie's shirt and almost simultaneously the girls both took each other's shirts off
and tossed them on the floor. Now, in just their shorts and bras, continued making out,
their hands discovering new places on the other girl's body to explore. They eventually
made their way back by Jessie's bed. But right before they both hit the bed, well, not HIT
the bed, but you know what I mean, Katie let go of Jessie, hoping that she wouldn't think
something was wrong, went over to her messenger bag, pulled out a burned C.D. and headed
towards Jessie's C.D. player.
"Just thought some music would be nice. I burned the mix before I came over. I hope
you like it."
"Is there any Billie Holiday in it?" Jessie was now interested, because the
music HAD to be good, good enough to have them stop doing what they were doing anyways and
besides, she already had Billie playing, even though she hadn't pressed the "repeat
all" button so the music had pretty much stopped about an hour or so ago.
"Yeah, she's in there. Here, come look at the list if you want. It's a mix of mostly
slow songs, but with some up beat ones."
"Alright, let's see what we have here," Jessie remarked as Katie handed her the
little booklet. Jessie started reading it over as Katie went to set the C.D. player.
The booklet read like this:
*Jessie and Katie's Mix *
1 Billie Holiday God Bless The Child
2 The Donnas Keep on Loving You
3 Sarah McLachlan Full of Grace
4 John Mayer Your Body is a Wonderland
5 Hoobastank I'm Ready For You
6 Bryan Adams When You Love Someone
7 Natalie Imbruglia Satellite
8 Train Drops of Jupiter
9 Sarah McLachlan I Love You
10 The Corrs Runaway
11 Mandy Moore I Wanna Be With You
12 Tonic If You Could Only See
13 Michelle Branch You Get Me
14 Stevie Nicks Every Day
15 Ben Lee Cigarettes Can Kill You
16 Evan & Jaron Crazy For This Girl
17 XTC We're All Light
18 Lifehouse Breathing
"Wow Katie, this is a pretty good mix."
"Thanks. I tried using a good mix of new and old, mainstream and not, etc. Well, now
that the C.D. player's programmed, let's get to back to where we left off," Katie
said seductively as she came up behind Jessie who was still looking at the list and
delicately wrapped her arms around her girlfriend and gracefully kissed Jessie's neck.
"Well," Jessie started as she set the booklet down on the desk, "You talked
me into it," she replied with a touch of humor to her voice as she turned herself
around to face Katie while not letting Katie's embrace leaving her side. Katie smiled and
quickly laid a kiss on Jessie's soft lips and took her hand and let her to the bed.
Butterflies were fluttering up a storm in both of the girls' stomachs. They both wanted to
make sure the other one was happy and satisfied and they both wanted this to be the
greatest/ most special night of their lives. I mean, you only lose you virginity once and
it was even more to them because they were with the most amazing girl they could have ever
dreamed of. The girls truly loved each other and hoped their fairy-tale like romance would
last the grasps of time and the hardship that is life.
Katie let Jessie lay down and get comfortable and after Katie knew that Jessie was ready,
Katie made her way on top of Jess. Katie pressed her body up against Jessie's, but not too
hard, just enough to get both of their heart beats pumping even faster than before. They
slowly started taking each other's bras off, then their shorts and eventually anything
else that they had on their bodies, while engaging in a series of wonderful and
extraordinary kisses. Their hands were everywhere, but it wasn't vulgar or anything of
that nature. It was sweet and innocent, everything that making love should be.
Katie looked down at Jessie, her hair flowing down on both sides of her face, leaned in
for a quick kiss and then asked, "Are you sure you want to do this because I don't
want you to do something you're not ready to do."
"Yes Katie, I'm sure. I've never been more sure of anything in my entire life."
When Jessie smiled so sweetly, it just about melted Katie's heart. No one had ever touched
her the way Jessie did, mentally as well as physically. Katie only hoped the love they had
for each other would last forever, for she didn't know what she would do if their love
ever stopped.
"I love you Katie and I will always love you. You are my sun; you keep me going when
I want to give up. You have been my angel, guiding me through and you mean so much to me.
I couldn't see me with anyone else but you." Jessie wanted to say that for so long.
Although she still couldn't believe how her friendship with Katie had developed into what
it is, but God was she thankful for it. She didn't care what other people had to say about
them anymore, it didn't matter. Nothing mattered except for Katie. As long as she had
Katie, she would survive.
"Oh Jessie, I love you too. You are my everything. Ever since our first kiss I
haven't been able to think of anything/one else but you. You are the first thing I think
of when I get up and the last thought before I go to sleep, hell, you're even in every
single one of my dreams. I'm so glad that I found you, because you have given me life,
hope, happiness, and so much more."
And with those ending words, the two girls kissed and it was pure bliss. For the next hour
or so, there was no heaven and no hell, things weren't just black and white, there was no
good and evil. There was just Jessie and Katie, Katie and Jessie. The two were transferred
into their own world, full of happiness and their love and passion for each other. They
eventually fell sleep, but just to make sure they weren't caught in too much of a
compromising position, they put on some pajamas. Katie didn't bring any so Jessie let her
borrow some. Then the two quietly climbed back into Jessie's bed and fell asleep in each
other's arms.
**********
EPILOGUE
That summer proved to be the best
summer of Jessie's life. She had finally overcome the years of battling with being
anorexic and somewhat depressed, she had found the love of her life, when everyone found
out what was going on between the two, they weren't fully excepted, at first, but they
were given all the love and support. That fall, Jessie met with Erik Lane, along with a
few local producers and managers and Jessie was on her way to starting her debut record.
It was nothing big, but it meant everything to her because Katie went out of her way to
make this happen. When the school year started, there was both a mixture of happiness and
sadness. Happiness because Jessie and Katie didn't have to hide their relationship and
their love for each other, word had pretty much spread throughout the summer. Everyone,
even Tad and Russell, had accepted the couple, welcoming them with open arms, never
judging or making fun of them. Jessie and Katie were on cloud nine. But there was sadness,
especially for Jessie because this would be Katie's last year at Sinclair. Next year she
would most likely be going to Oxford University, Brown University, or Columbia, none of
which were within an hour's drive away from where they lived. As much as Jessie was sad
thinking that she only had one more year with Katie, Katie was also feeling upset and
confused. Katie didn't want to leave Jessie, she wanted to just drop all of the offers to
go out of state and even out of the country to stay in state and stay with Jessie. She
couldn't lose Jessie and Katie knew that if she went away, their relationship would soon
parish due to the distance set between them and she just couldn't do it.
They made it through the year and then Katie came up with the decision. She would stay
home for a year, attend the local university and get some of the all around requirements
over with and then when Jessie was ready to graduate, they would go to college either
together, or different colleges close by each other. At the time Jessie didn't agree with
plan because she didn't want Katie to miss out on the opportunity to go to Oxford, Brown,
or Columbia, especially since she would have received a full ride to all three of them.
But in the same sense, Jessie was happy that she was meant that much to Katie.
After Jessie graduated from Sinclair, they were both accepted to Columbia University.
Jessie was majoring to become a doctor and Katie majored in business. Despite what you
would think, they made it through college still together and more in love then ever. After
Jessie graduated, (Jessie had an eight year program and Katie's was only for four years)
the two had saved up enough money to move out of one of the local apartment buildings by
campus and bought their own little house in one of the squares by the campus. Katie
eventually took over as CEO for a local business that branched out to be one of the top
businesses of the times. Jessie ended up becoming the head doctor of the pediatric ward of
Columbia's research hospital.
After being together for fifteen
long years of being together, Katie and Jessie decided that it was finally time to tie the
knot and get married. They were married in April on a warm, sunny day. Since they weren't
the traditional couple, they didn't have the traditional wedding. It was a small ceremony
with Rick and Lily, Karen and Henry, Eli, Grace, Zoë, and a few other close friends and
relatives. They were married on the beach. The wedding was truly beautiful. Katie and
Jessie were in love and had been ever since the first summer they were together back in
high school. Their love had tested time and it seemed as though the love they had for each
other only grew as time progressed. They overcame so much together and as individuals.
Things couldn't have been more perfect.
Two years after the wedding, Jessie
was now 31 and Katie had just turned 33, the two decided it was the right time to take the
next step. There was a lot of hype on the new process of creating an embryo from two eggs.
At first, Jessie and Katie were a little hesitant to try, but after some convincing from
some of Jessie's colleagues that had done research on the process and Zoë who was now the
leader in this medical breakthrough, they decided to give it a try. Well, it was a huge
success. Jessie carried the baby, since she was younger and in slightly better health than
Katie. They had a baby girl named Abby Marie Singer. (When they got married, Jessie
decided that instead of hyphenating their last names together making it Sammler-Singer,
she just decided that it would be easier if she changed her name to Jessie Elizabeth
Singer.) A year later they had another baby, this time it was a boy. They named him
Jonathan Michael Singer.
They didn't live happily-ever-after,
but they lived as close to it as humanly possible. Both kids grew up in a loving home,
never pushed to do what they didn't want to, not including behaving and chores, and they
got to be who they were, without interference from Jessie or Katie. Abby and Jonathan both
grew up and ended up marrying the opposite sex. Abby went to Oxford and became a professor
at the university. Katie was so excited that Abby was going to attend there, that she
splurged and bought the most amazing loft about twenty minutes away from the campus. She
told Abby that loft was a gift for her, but Jessie knew why Katie really bought it, it was
her dream house and even though they had an amazing house by Columbia, Jessie knew it was
what Katie always wanted.
Abby married an English gentlemen
who owned his own expanding business. Jonathan went to Julliard and studied music. He
later wrote, composed, and published six symphonies and three concertos before he turned
thirty. Jon later married a local New York painter named Claire. Abby and Erik had two
children, two boys and Jon and Claire had one girl.
Katie and Jessie retired at ages 54 and 56
respectively. They owned a ranch out west that they lived in the summer and in the other
seasons they lived in England in the loft that Abby lived in while she was attending
Oxford. So in the end, Jessie and Katie got everything they ever wanted. They found an
amazing person to live their life with, had two amazing kids, led good lives and made the
most of their work, and the list could go on and on. And in the end, they both got to live
out their dreams of living with the other one in the house of their dreams with the one
they still loved after all that time, ever since the kiss in the attic. It was the best
summer of all, leading Jessie and Katie's lives into one of the most beautiful things ever
created.
