**********

The room was dark. Flickers of light made it's way through the rain and into her window. The rain was always wonderful, but not tonight.  All she could see was "her" in the mirror, the mirror which sat in the darkest corner of her mind.  It was simple.  She only would have to say the words, which were so renounced in heart.  But the consequences would only make her stomach twist & turn more.  Take away the sickness, which accompanied love's heart, and all there was, was "her".  A face.   A voice.  A presence so unforgettable, even her very soul whispered incantations to the object ("her") of this desire.  Every word she spoke gave a breath of renewed life.  Forcing the blood to rush swiftly throughout her body.  Only courage could cure this infatuation.  No.  Only "she" could cure the infatuation, imperfection.  The girl turned over onto her side.  Bring the darkness in her mind to full view.  Bring the dreams that would only last that one second as it passed.

Morning brought new thoughts, hopes, but not only that, new fears as well.  That second could have captured her forever.  But it didn't. It let her go to face the world of uncertainty and heartache. She glanced at the mirror briefly and made her way out of the room.

School

School could only bring more trouble. But who would know what was happening behind these eyes so green? She walks on hoping no one notices her arrival. No luck…

"Katie!" Tad yelled as he approached sliding his arm around her.

"What's happening?"

"Nothing much, just the usual, you?" Katie replied with a hint of disinterest.

"Heaps, I can't imagine life being any better that this…" Tad would most probably blabber on for another 5 mins before he realised that he lost her attention before he had started. Katie could not help but feel some dislike for Tad at this moment in her life. Things were so much easier for him. She could only be silently jealous of the time he spent with "her". She shook it off. Today was not the day where she was going to ponder these thoughts.

"Are you alright? You haven't heard…"

"I'm fine, everything is fine." Katie responded blasé before Tad could finish.

"you sure? Cause I have noticed…"

"Nothing's wrong, why do you insist on digging for drama when there isn't any?" Katie asked as she cut him off again.

"Please let the bell ring, anymore of this shit and I swear I'll" …   And there "she" was. It was everything became one motion. Everything was slow. Katie's eyes covered the new addition to the room, without a second thought. Like an angel to bring light unto the endless nights.  Katie jerked slightly as she felt her heart jump.

"A way out…NOW" Katie's mind insisted.

"Tad, I'm going." Katie spat out, and with that she instantly disappeared.

"Hey babe" Tad said to the girl who had approached him cautiously.

"You know I dislike you calling me that. I do have a name" the girl replied with some bitterness.

"Sorry! Didn't know you would get all huffy about it Jess." Tad took a step back as if she was going to give him a flogging that he would never forget.

"So where did Katie take off to? I'm sure that I saw her a minute ago." Jessie asked Tad while poking him abruptly trying to cause him harm.

"Not sure. She just spat out a few words then left…" Tad was going to continue but…

"You were talking about yourself again weren't you? Haven't you learnt that it makes people want to hide in the deepest hole that they can find?" Jessie obviously was eager to start an argument.

"Hey! People like, no, LOVE to talk to me, or listen as it maybe." Tad said as he took a defensive stance.

Outside

The day dragged on. A dull and unmotivated Katie Singer was making her way out of the school grounds.

"Maybe if I'm fast enough, no one will catch me…"

This place had become so unbearable for Katie. The sounds only deafened her until she could break free from it. Truthfully, it was never like this. Katie once loved this place, the people. But now, she could only focus on one thing. The one thing that could bring the light and the dark in one brief moment, the one thing that she couldn't have

"Jessie. Oh, Jessie. Only my heart knows what love I contain for you.  Not even my eyes can radiate it. Locked away deep inside, is where this love will stay."

As she made her way onto the path back to home. She pondered thoughts she had many times before. Lost in a recurring cycle as she wandered alone under autumn's leaves.
