Summary: Challenge Response. "Jessie & Katie", a tragic love story (following
Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet"), so definitely an AU Fic. *lol*
Author's Note: I noticed something! Isn't Katie acting a bit too masculine??? I
mean the guns (especially the guns!!!)... "serenading" to her lover... there're
a lot of role clichés here, aren't there? *lol* Do you think Jessie would like
to have guns, too? ;-) Just for equality-reasons!
PART 3
Tad's temper consumed his voice, when he found his best friend. Katie was laying
on her bed, completely lost in her daydreams.
"Do you really have the guts to fall in love with this Sammler girl. I can't
believe what you're doing. That'll be the end of the life we all know. You can't
do this! You can't share your bed with our biggest enemy."
A cold breeze blew through the open window. Tad's wide open short-sleeved shirt
moved in the gentle wind. He hasn't yet left the house this morning but he
already wore the holster with his guns. And while Katie was still laying on her
bed, thinking about whether she should comment on his remarks or not, he was
busy grabbing her black holster from a cabinet near the door. He took it and
threw it onto Katie's bare, flat stomach.
"Never dare to go out of this house without them! Love makes blind, not
invincible."
Katie shivered under the touch of the silver 9mm on her skin. The metal was cold
and glistened in the first sunlight. She stood up, took the holster and put it
on. The fabric felt hard on her neck. Like she did every morning, she took one
gun after another into her hand, checking the ammunition. The soft clicking made
her feel some kind of relief, it made her feel safe.
She couldn't be to hard on Tad, he was right some how. She smiled at him.
"She's not your enemy... Love makes not invincible, but strong."
Then she left the Singer manor and hurried to the beach. She was already late.
Jessie had left the Sammler estate before sunrise. She hadn't slept, she
couldn't... Katie has set her mind on fire, possessed her every thought. There
was no time for sleep.
It was almost unbelievable that they've just met a few hours ago. It seemed as
if they already had been in love for a lifetime.
She sat down in the sand near the sea, waiting for her lover to come. After a
while she remembered what had happened earlier this morning.
**********
Her stepmother had rushed into her room. She had been furious and had started
screaming just as she had entered the room.
Jessie had lain on her bed, her thoughts had still been occupied with the memory
of Katie's passionate vow.
All of a sudden Lily had grabbed her arm and pulled her up on her feet, her
voice high-pitched, shrill... screaming out all her anger.
"How dare you? You've left Zak alone last night."
Jessie hadn't understood, where the problem was. Her stepmother had suggested
that she should dance with this man... nothing more... and they had danced for a
while.
"You haven't told me, I should watch over him... the whole night." Jessie tried
to justify herself.
Lily had begun pacing around in her daughter's room. It had been such an
embarrassing situation! An open insult to her pride.
"He's you fiancé! You can't just leave him alone!" Lily had barked. Her face
had been disfigured by rage.
Fiancé? Jessie had been close to fainting. She had stumbled back to her bed and
sat down, entirely paralysed by the words that had just been said.
"F... fiancé? Have you just said fiancé?"
"Of course!! He's the man you are going to marry."
For just a few seconds Jessie had been incapable of reacting to what was
happening. She had been horrified. She didn't love this man and she never will,
that was for sure.
For the moment there had been just one thing she could do. Protest and flee...
so her stepmother couldn't do anything about it.
"No, I never will!" She had shouted, her face full of hate and disgust.
Never in her entire life she had run faster, than she had while fleeing from the
Sammler manor.
**********
Someone touched her shoulder. Jessie felt fingertips gently caressing her skin
and she knew who had finally come. She turned around and looked into her lovers
beaming face.
"At last!" She whispered and Katie bent down to kiss her.
Katie sat down behind Jessie and pulled her between her legs, so she could hug
her from behind, resting her head on Jessie's shoulder.
"Have you waited long?"
Jessie shook her head.
"No... But the night had been so damn long!"
"I know... I know." Katie said quietly, her lips close to Jessie's ear. She
kissed her earlobe slightly, causing Jessie to shiver.
Jessie searched for Katie's hands and took hold of them, after a while their
fingers entwined.
They watched the sun rise. It dipped the sky in to all shades of red, new warmth
spread in the air. The rays of sunlight shimmered on the water. Everything felt
calm.
Out of the blue Katie sensed that something was wrong, she heard Jessie
whimpering. It broke her heard.
"Jess... my love, what's up? What happened?"
Jessie had just remembered... her parents want her to marry, marry a man she
doesn't love, marry a man she doesn't even know... It ripped her apart, suddenly
and with all the might one thought could have.
"They... they want me to marry... Zak... they already promised me to him... I
can't! I just can't! I love you! I'll never love someone else."
Katie fell silent and hold Jessie closer. She didn't know what to say. Life was
cruel and all its cruelty had struck them. It was going to destroy them, it was
going to tear their love apart.
"I'll flee... I leave the town... I leave the country... the continent... I'll
do whatever is necessary... just to be with you." Jessie stated with tear
rolling down her cheeks.
"I'll come with you. You're all I ever need, I'll never leave you alone." Katie
reassured her.
And she hadn't been more sure of anything in her life. She wouldn't let Jessie
go. Now that she had found the love she had been searching for, she'll never let
it go again.
**********
Tad and Ben had followed Katie to the beach. Even though they trusted her, they
were afraid that she was in great danger. There could always be some Sammler who
wanted to see her dead or just badly hurt. They had sat down in a bunch of big
stones, only a few paces away from the couple, but far away enough so they
wouldn't notice them.
Ben had placed his hand on the gun that was held by the waistband of his pants.
He wanted to be sure that he could pull it out fast enough to protect his
sister.
Tad's hands were shaking somewhat, he was tense, as always. Fear and anger were
driving him crazy. His best friend was making the mistake of her life. Love!
Love! Damn love! Nothing was worth risking one's life.
"How long do you think it'll last?"
"What?" Ben kicked his cigarette into the sand and watched it burn down.
"How long will Katie love her? Two hours, two days?"
Ben smiled.
"I've never seen her like this."
"Me too... it scares the hell out of me. What if she's really in love? What if
this should last?"
Ben shrugged his shoulders. This love was never going to last. It just couldn't.
There was no love possible between their families. Hate and fury had consumed
their relationship for so many years... nothing would ever change it.
He got lost in his thoughts, but he was awakened by Tad jumping from the stones
without saying something. Tad ripped the shirt from his shoulders, so he had
free access to his guns. He pulled them out and their clicking, when Tad
unsecured them, made Ben jump up in immense terror.
Tad was already running. Ben took his 9mm and followed him. He had seen what Tad
had just noticed a few seconds ago.
There were two men standing close to Jessie and Katie. Both with drawn guns. One
of them had pulled Jessie on her feet, holding her, while... while the other
one... while the other one was beating up Katie. His feet hitting her hard again
and again.
As they came close they recognized them. It was Zak, son of the towns governor,
and Eli, the only son of the Sammler family. Eli held his sister fiercely... he
didn't seem to care about her screaming and her pleads to stop.
Ben shot into the air to draw attention to them. He noticed that Katie's gun had
been thrown away. She was already incapable of moving, she lay still... blood
flowing from her face and hands. Zak didn't stop hitting her. He screamed in
unbearable rage.
Eli saw the two of them coming close and pointed his gun at Ben.
"Stop were you are, foe!"
Ben and Tad raised their guns. As Tad saw that Zak didn't stop, even though he
had a gun pointed on him.... he... he shot. His hands were still shaking, so he
missed, but he caused Zak to stop beating up Katie.
Now they were standing there, an agonizing silence creeping through the air,
pointing their guns at each other. Jessie was still crying... trying to get free
from her brother's hold... Katie was laying the sand, she wasn't moving...
"Jessica is promised to me... your sister has no right to diminish what is
mine." Zak stated with conceited voice.
"I don't love you!" Jessie screamed. She felt the pain... she felt Katie's pain
and it made her tears flow even harder.
"I don't care whether you love me or not. You're mine."
They heard the sounds of a helicopter coming closer... then the sirens of the
police, then loud voices.
No one noticed how Katie had crawled to her guns. She took them. The pain was
torturing her with every move, but she stood up, forcing down all agony. She
pointed her guns at Zak.
"Never dare to provoke a desperate soul," She said as calmly as possible, but
it was hard to prevent her voice from trembling from fear. "let her go!"
Eli shook his head.
"Let her go!!" Katie screamed in despair.
And all of a sudden a shot filled the air. Zak had taken advantage of Katie's
distraction.
The bullet hit Katie hard, it hit her shoulder... and Katie had to fight
unconsciousness, when the pain began to overcome her. With in instinctive
reaction she fired her 9mms. One after another... again and again.... until she
fell backwards down into the sand. The ache in her body made her weak.
Then she heard Ben's screaming voice:
"Cops!!!! Kat... run!! Kat, stand up! Stand up!!! Run!!!"
He felt someone grab her arm, pulling her to her feet. She saw that Zak was
laying in the sand, his shirt filling blood. She killed him! A voice shouted in
her head. Then she ran.
**********
When the police arrived, there were just the Sammlers left. Ben, Katie and Tad
had ran away as fast as their feet could carry them.
Just a few seconds later two limousines halted near the beach. The heads of both
families stepped out of the cars. They looked at each other with open disgust.
A police officer came.
"Mr. Sammler, Zak Prince, the governors son had been killed...," he looked at
Rick then to Mr Singer, "he had been killed by your daughter, Katherine Singer."
Eli supported his sister as they went to the limousine of their family. Jessie
was dulled by her fear. She couldn't think, walk or even cry... Katie!!
"I'm sorry, I have to tell you. I'll let search for her... the only punishment
for murder is," Mrs Singer fell onto her knees crying, "death."
"You can't do this, "Mr Singer screamed, "I'm sure it was self-defence."
Rick Sammler just laughed.
"Self-defence? This aggressive little bitch, you call your daughter! You must be
kidding. It must have been pure thirst for blood."
"No!" Mrs Singer yelled.
"First she raped my lovely, innocent daughter. Than she killed her fiancé in
compulsive jealousy and savage fury."
The police officer stayed calm.
"Six shots killed the man... that's definitely no self-defence, but a cold
slaughter. Your daughter will be searched for and sentenced to death within a
day." He stayed, before he returned to his car.
Jessie hadn't heard most of the conversation. She fainted just as she had heard
the word "death"... her love... dead... all her senses were blunted with fear.
She lost love... she lost her life. There was no way was she was going to
survive her lover's punishment.
