Disclaimer:  Most of these characters aren't mine and I'm just borrowing them for a while. But some are mine… like Matt!
Summary: AU Fic. Ok, a little update, I have some ideas about the story now, but I won't tell you all of them. Jessie and Katie are at college, they meet and… Jessie is one of these I'm-so-damn-straight-girls who breaks all the boys hearts and Katie is the very good friend who tries to be not so honest about a few things.
Author's Note: I'm sorry that this part is quite short, but I'm kind of tired and I didn't want you to wait to too long, so I posted this part even if it wasn't complete. I really wanted to finish it today, but as I said... not enough sleep. I hope you enjoy it. If not: Tell me! :-)

PART 11

The outside world faded away, when Jessie and Katie met in the halls. Voices became soft whispers, walls and doors disappeared into a veil... their world appeared. They didn't have to talk, they didn't have to look at each other... they just knew... everything. The people on campus were still talking, they still stated Katie seduced Jessie. Some said Jessie gave the cold shoulder to Katie and the rest claimed they were madly in love, but no one was really sure about what was happening. And Jessie and Katie just didn't care...

After class the halls were crowded. Full of students who hurried to their next course and lecturers who were fleeing from students who were a little bit to keen on their courses.

Jessie and Katie didn't spent much time together, they even stopped greeting each other on campus... that's what it seemed.
Katie went with the stream of other students still thinking about her last lab training and the bacteria which died so suddenly. From the other side of the hall a bunch of students was leaving a lecture hall. Jessie was yawning. That has been the most boring class she had had for weeks...
Without anyone noticing Jessie and Katie walked past each other, they didn't even look at each other. But no one could see their hands, because they were surrounded by other students. No one saw that they were touching the other one's hand while walking past each other.

Time stood still for a brief second, when their fingers came in contact, when they felt the other one's soft skin... Katie took a deep breath. This couldn't be just friendship, no one's doing this with his or her friends, no one. Her skin is so smooth... like velvet... damn, it's screaming: "Touch me, Katie! Don't leave me alone!" Katie smiled to herself. It would probably be a good idea to visit a doctor to let her ears be checked. When Jessie sensed Katie's hand she had suppress the urge to grab it. That's all she wanted at the moment... hold her hand. She just wanted to be allowed to show some affection, but no! They agreed on friendship. Great!

"Hey girls! I brought pizza."  Matt shouted when he entered the apartment.

It had become a daily routine. He came home and Jessie and Katie were already sitting in the living room working on their notes, some essay or just reading. Both on their own, but still together somehow. He found it kind of cute on the one hand, but on the other hand he saw how it made Katie suffer. Almost every night, when Jessie had went home, she was sitting on the sofa starring at the ceiling, asking herself why she was doing all this.

"I'm starving."  Katie smiled.

"Sorry... I'll have to..." Jessie stated and went to the bathroom.
Matt and Katie looked at each other and after a while Katie just shrugged her shoulders.

"I know! Don't tell me!"

Matt gave Katie one of the pizza boxes and grinned.

"What? I didn't say anything... but speaking of this: Maybe Jessie and I should switch apartments. I think Grace will like me and Jessie's here all the time anyway. So... what do you think?"

"That's not funny!"  Katie opened the box and took a small part of the pizza.

"It is, honey. It is. You should see yourself... it's quite funny. See the only difference between you two and a couple is..."

"Oh, shut up! I know! And I can't explain how it developed this way... it just did, ok? And somehow I'm happy about it, because I was afraid that Jessie would be scared of me or wouldn't want to spent time with me and now she isn't... Do you understand?"

Matt sat down in the armchair and took some pizza, he nodded.

"Yes I do, but.. officially it's still friendship, isn't it?"

Katie nodded.

"Yes, well... somehow."

Jessie came back and smiled at them.

"Did you leave something for me?"

"Of course, sweety,"  Matt grinned, "hey, ahm... as we're sitting here... so comfortably together... tell me one thing: Why don't you greet each other in the halls. I saw you today and you just walked past each other."

Jessie's and Katie's faces got red immediately. They both felt that they had been caught. Somehow it became more real... it was a silent agreement... this touching instead of greeting... now it was real. Extremely real.

"It's ok... you don't have to tell... seems I found some kind of weak spot,"   Matt finished his pizza,  "so, what about DVD now? I definitely need some entertainment now."

He just went on. He smiled to himself, when he saw that both of them were still speechless. That was what he wanted. They had to think about what they were doing. It had to become real.

**********

By some means Jessie had accepted everything. She didn't want to deny it anymore, even though she was still scared. But then she looked at Katie and all the questions were gone. This one night when Katie had cooked for them, everything changed. That night was what she wanted everyday.

Jessie didn't pay attention to the movie that they were watching. She had a completely different problem: How could she get closer to Katie without Matt noticing it and without flipping from friendship-mode to I'm-so-in-love-mode? That was unquestionably a problem. Goodness, just look at her... she's so adorable.

Katie tried to concentrate on the movie. But it wasn't as exciting as sensing that Jessie is trying to come closer... in fact feeling Jessie moving was rather thrilling. Maybe she should help her and try to get close to her herself. Wait! Stop! A few days ago... Jessie agreed to friendship... and Katie still assumed she was straight... somehow... and now they're acting as foolishly as a teenage couple? There's something going completely wrong. But then again Katie couldn't withstand Jessie's attempts. Isn't that what she wanted all the time? She wanted Jessie to be in love with her. And now Jessie was acting as if she was... Wow! Katie felt a shiver in her neck. There she is. Ok, picture this: We're sitting on my sofa watching some damn stupid movie and we're holding hands! We're friends, remember we're friends. Oh... my... I'll never believe how soft she feels.

Jessie closed her eyes and relaxed. Finally! If my heart wasn't racing, I would feel incredible. But it is racing, so I'm kind of tensed... don't be tensed... don't... it's just Katie.. and you've hold hands before... ok, you haven't hold hands with a girl before, but... oh leave it! She smiled to herself.

Even though it was getting darker and darker in the room. Matt could see, that the two shadows on the sofa were holding hands. Isn't that enough for them to realise?!
