Challenge Fics:

All of the challenges are still open and we hope you will write for one if looking for some more ideas.  If anyone has a good challenge idea for us please send it on over and we will add it to the list.

Challenge #18 posted June 10, 2003 by Nicky:

Katie and Jessie, Romeo and Juliet-style. They grew up in two rival families. Of course somehow they meet and fall in love, but the families would hate the idea of the two of them if they found out.

Has to include:

 - smoochies :p
 - a scene where the two daddy’s meet and give each other a hard time (not physically,   just bad language), where both the girls are present, and already have affection for each other (either already together or not yet), but the daddy’s are unaware of their feelings
 - a fancy party one of the families is throwing, where one of the girls shows up uninvited.
 - The girls will not die in the end, no killing of the girls!! Have them run off together or something, or make up another ending, but it has to be a happy one for the girls.
 - of course some angst, because, well, duh, we all know the story
 - balcony scene optional, make it romantic if you include it

Future fic. Katie and Jessie's relationship has survived college, and now one of them wants to propose--you choose which one. Just a one parter fic, so get creative with how she proposes! :) Should include at least 2 of the following:

- Ice (as usual)
- The proposer thinking (momentarily) that they've lost the ring and panicking
- Squealing
- Jessie and Katie's "song" coincidentally coming on the radio
- A mention of *the* letter (does Jessie still have it? mention it any way you want)
- An Evan or Mischa movie reference.

Jessie wanted to live on a ranch when she grew up, so perhaps Katie should suprise her with a weekend trip to a dude ranch. (presumably the girls are close to the ages
they were on O&A). A few ideas could be

- Cattle drive
- Campout under the stars
- Jessie teaching Katie to ride a horse or vice versa
- Katie, in her infinite attempts to impress Jessie enters the ranch's rodeo.  You pick the event.
- Maybe include an element of danger, to shake things up a bit

I don't know really. Just some ideas. But I think that you could have a lot of fun with this one. Hope you like it!

Okay, this one only has one major point. I remember another challenge once including an IM conversation so that's probably where the seed came from.

For the challenge – set before, during and after GSA episode, containing conversations in email and IM. Somehow Jessie and Katie start talking on the web, not aware of who the other is. Each talks somewhat about the situation, admits to feelings and offers advice, etc. Katie works out who it is that she is talking to but says nothing, right around the time of GSA. Sometime after GSA Katie comes clean and about knowing. (If you make Jess have a very bad reaction, she has to get over it in the story, I like happy endings :) )

- Krispy Kreme donuts
- Jessie's obsession with American Idol (Kelly in particular) and it has to be before she won. (and other reality shows if you want)
- Jessie giving Katie crap over her diving or a driving incident
- Katie & Grace minor bonding while shopping for something for Jessie
- Issues while ordering at a drive-thru
- Jess & Katie taking (or contemplating) some kind of outside/extension class together

- A late night swim
- Squirells

- changing a diaper
- singins a lullaby to Baby Sammler
- finding a toy in a weird place
- the baby crying after they think he/she is asleep

AN A/U story. Jessie and Katie meet in summer camp. (Ok, so that one's not as creative...I tried). It can be one of those theme camps if you want. There are really no requirements for this one, except:

- a Bonfire
- a walk in the woods
- a swim in the lake

- and work in some minor storyline for Grace,or Zoey or Sarah, Katie's ex

It's fluff time folks! Well, possibly. Jessie and Katie have been together for quite some time(you choose the exact length), and decide to have a "girl's night in" when Karen goes out with Henry for the evening. Yes, that means sleepover. Should include at least 2 of these:

- Jessie or Katie attempting to fix the TV/VCR/toilet/whatever.
- Katie finding something embarassing(funny type embarassing) in Jessie's room(ex., a slobbery teddy bear or something)
- A pathetic attempt by Jessie to cook
- The movie "Bring It On"
- Sheep pajamas
- "Undressed"(that show on MTV that everyone SAYS they hate...but really watches obsessively)

Jessie and Katie have been dating a few months(anywhere from 3-6...author chooses) and have just "come out" about their relationship. Write a fic about their first official date. Must include at least 2 of the following:

- Black lace
- A run in with a parent (or step-parent) of Jessie or Katie
- A waitress/sales clerk/whatever(must be female!) flirting with one (or both, if you like that sorta thing :D ) of the girls
- Tad. In any way, shape, or form. Just Tad.
- Some reference to one of Mischa's movies
- Ice cubes(sorry, I have a slight obsession with ice)
- Cheerios

- A ski trip with the Manning/Sammler clan and Katie (of course) and they all get stuck together in the cabin, and no one really knows about them (cept Grace of course)
- Eli suspects and keeps trying to get Jess to slip up and tell him
- A game of twister, with J/K and Eli and Grace with Zoe on the spinny thing. Compromising positions for all.
- J/K first time
- Katie wanting to see the movie "Enough" because she wants to see J.LO get beaten up and she thinks the guy (Billy Campbell) in it is kinda hot for an old guy. Grace mentions he looks a lot like Rick. Jess continues to taunt Katie that Katie thinks her DAD is hot.
- someone other than Jess discovering Katie has some kind of tattoo, that makes reference to Jessie or J.S. and Katie has some odd explainations. Jess finds it later, or overhears.

Choose a missing scene from either The Gay-Straight Alliance(post-attic kiss--immediately after or later in the day, whatever) or Experience is the Teacher(post-refrigerator scene). It's very open-ended except it must include one of the following:

- A pillow fight or
- An instant message conversation

Work them in however you feel works the best.

A year from now--Katie has just graduated, and she and Jessie go on a road trip. Doesn't matter where they go--you can write about their whole trip or just one stop that they make. They can be open about their relationship, or still in secret--doesn't matter. Just make it interesting! :) Must include at least 1 of the following:

- Ice cubes
- A run-in with a trucker named Bubba
- Jessie making fun of Katie's driving
- Dirty socks(?)
- A phone call to or from Tad
- Hanson music

Find a "unique" way of writing a story where Jessie and Katie consumate their relationship ONLY with these added parameters: Ahem *clearing throat and pulling out long list* =)

- The characters must be OLDER than what they are now. What age you put them in is up to you.
- It must involve either an elevator, a car, an office, an airplane OR a movie theatre. Choose ONE please. =)
- It's a short story so please don't write anything that needs to continue. End it.
- There must be a happy ending of sorts.
- And this is a biggie, You can write NC-17 rated but not too graphic please. =)
